Can I use a Student plan on any mobile device?

3G services are no longer available. You can only use your SIM on devices that are compatible with our 4G/5G network.​

Optus (and other Australian telecommunication providers) is legally required to block access to devices that are not able to make emergency calls to Triple Zero (000) using VoLTE. Check if your phone is compatible using our Device Checker tool, by entering the first 8 digits of your device’s IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number. Find your device’s IMEI number by dialling *#06#.​

If your device is not compatible, you will need a new compatible device to stay connected. You can find more information here.

How do I keep track of my usage?

We'll send you usage alerts once you've reached approximately 50%, 85% and 100% of your shared included domestic data (in Australia only).​

What happens if I go over my plan’s included data?

With our Endless Data feature, once you reach your shared data allowance, all services on your account will continue to use data at a maximum speed of up to 1.5Mbps. A speed of 1.5Mbps is suitable for general internet browsing and music streaming, however some activities such as video streaming may see increased buffering and loading times.

Can I add more data with the new Optus Choice Plus/Business Choice Plus plans?

Data Add-ons and Unlimited Data Day are available for these plans and can be added in My Optus App or My Account.

Can I change or cancel my plan?

If you only have a Choice Plus SIM plan with Optus, you have the flexibility to change your plan once a month, and there are no cancellation fees.

If you have purchased a device with OptusPay together with your Choice Plus SIM plan, you can change your SIM plan once a month. However, if you cancel your device or SIM plan, you will need to pay out the remaining cost of your device in full.

What is Data Sharing?

If you have more than one eligible plan that shares data on the same account, the included monthly data allowance will combine and be shared by all eligible services on that account. This data can also be shared with any existing Data Sharing plan. Any unused data in the account expires at the end of each payment cycle.

What identification details do I need when ordering the phone?

Whether you're ordering online on the phone or in store, make sure to have your ID and employment details handy as we'll need them for the credit check to process your order.

Am I able to change my delivery address after I've made an order?

Once your order has been processed you won't be able to change your delivery address, so make sure to put in the correct address when placing your order.

Can I change the colour or size of the phone I've ordered after I've placed my order?

Once your order has been processed you won't be able to change the size or colour of your phone, so we recommend you double check prior to submitting your order.

Do I need to be there when my phone is delivered?

Yes, we'll need you to provide Proof of ID and sign for your device when it's delivered. If you miss the delivery, your device will be delivered to the closest post office for you to pick up

Can I use roaming if I am planning to go overseas on the new Optus Choice Plus/Business Choice Plus plans?

Yes, you can roam within Zone 1 destinations. You will be automatically charged via card upon first usage in an eligible destination. To see eligible destinations and more information Optus International Roaming

Are there any limitations on the Optus Choice Plus plans?

The below are not available:

  • Premium SMS
  • Directory assistance SMS

Optus Choice Plus plans do not data share with other plans which are not on the same financial account. Check your CIS document or My Optus app to check your plan.

Can I call or text from Australia to a destination outside my plan inclusions on Optus Choice Plus plans?

Yes, you can purchase once-off or recurring international talk and text add-ons in My Optus app. To see eligible destinations and more information see International Talk and Text add-ons | Optus.

How do I pay for my new Optus Choice Plus plan?

Your new Optus Choice Plus plan will be charged automatically each month via your selected card payment. You can only choose to use credit, debit or charge card for your automatic payments and can update these details anytime in My Account or My Optus app.

Once your payment is successful, you will be able to view your Tax Invoice in My Account or My Optus App.

Am I eligible for the Student offer?

When signing up online: You'll need a valid tertiary education email address.
If signing up in store, you'll need a:

  • Uni/Tertiary ID Card
  • Student Visa confirmation
  • University acceptance email
What happens if I cancel or recontract?

If you cancel or recontract within the first 12 months, the offer will be forfeited.

Is this offer available with any other offers?

This offer is available with other offers unless specified.

How long will I receive this offer for?

The offer will be available for 12 months unless you cancel or recontract to another plan.
