Why we’re changing the price of your nbn plan
August 2022
You may have been contacted about upcoming changes to your nbn internet plan. As a matter of transparency, we want to explain the factors that have led to our decision to increase the cost of some of our internet plans.
Why the change?
With more and more people now working, entertaining and communicating with loved ones from home, the demand for a reliable broadband service has never been so high. In fact, in the last three years, internet usage on our network has increased by over 50%.
Due to increased usage demands the tough decision has been made to increase the cost of some of our nbn internet plans.
Whilst we’ve made a significant investment in our network and continued our efforts to reduce congestion and offer quality of service, NBN Co’s wholesale pricing model has forced us to revaluate the profitability of some nbn rate plans.
To continue bringing you a high quality internet experience, we need to buy more internet capacity from the NBN Co, which means our costs from NBN Co are increasing to provide you with unlimited internet. This is why we need to make this change to your plan.
In keeping in line with our commitment to provide a great internet experience, we’ve had to make some changes and increase the price of some of our nbn Home Internet plans and Optus Business nbn internet plans.
Keep in mind, not all plans are changing. The changes will only impact three of our older nbn rate plans.
Which plans are changing?
From August 2022, the following nbn rate plans will change:
- The $60 plan will be increased by $10 to $70 per month
- The $70 plan will be increased by $5 to $75 per month
We’ve written to you (via email or a letter in the post) to let you know what’s happening and what your options are.
What are my next steps?
It’s never an easy to decision to increase our prices, but we believe we’ve made the right one. As we’ve mentioned, we’re committed to providing Australian households with a quality internet service.
To find out what options we have available to you or have any questions about this change, message us 24/7 in My Optus app
or get in touch here.
If you want to change or cancel your plan because of this change, you can do so by getting in touch with us before 9th August 2022, in My Optus app or get in touch here.
If you do cancel you won’t be charged a cancellation fee, however any other outstanding fees (such as any remaining access fees) will apply. If we don’t hear from you, your new monthly access fee will apply from your August bill.
