WiFi 7 is the seventh generation of WiFi, a major improvement over WiFi 6 and 6E, offering access to faster speeds, reduced latency, more capacity, and boosted stability and efficiency.

The Optus Ultra WiFi 5G Modem utilises WiFi 7 technology, so you have access to up to 20% faster WiFi speeds than WiFi 6 and stronger coverage in more corners of your home¹ . It delivers fast 5G download speeds so you can stream, play games and work from home.

The nbn® provides internet via a hard-wired broadband network. 5G is a wireless internet network. Optus 5G Home Internet offers super-fast speeds, unlimited data and an easy to connect modem. Fair Go Policy applies.

The Optus Ultra WiFi 5G Modem can deliver faster speeds than our previous modems. Please note, that actual speeds may vary and are limited by the selected plan speed. Other factors can also impact the speed of your home internet, the number of connected devices, building materials and home layout.

To upgrade to the Ultra WiFi 5G Modem, you can call us, message us, speak with us in store or sign up to an Optus 5G plan online.

All existing customers will have the choice to take the Ultra WiFi 5G Modem, however they will have to pay out any equipment fees (if applicable) and start a new 36-month Device Payment Plan.

If you already have the Optus Ultra WiFi 5G Modem, your modem will over time update with WiFi 7 capability in a progressive rollout across the Optus 5G network.

WiFi 7 technology is available to new services only from 24/2/25.

For best results, position your modem 1 - 1.5m off the ground in a central location in your home. Keep it away from large electronic devices ( like TV’s & speakers), somewhere easily accessible, in a well-ventilated area. If your home is 2 levels, your modem should be placed on the ground level, and you may require a WiFi booster to optimise your service.
