Optus, the first mobile network provider in Australia to offer customers eSIM capability, have today announced that Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) who use the Optus network can now offer eSIMs.
Customers of Optus ’ MVNO partners will have the option to access new mobile services in just minutes, rather than the days it regularly takes. A simple QR code, will help to make it easier for both Postpaid and Prepaid customers of MVNO partners around Australia to gain access to Optus’ 4G and 5G network in a more sustainable and streamlined way.
Optus Managing Director of Wholesale, Satellite and Strategy, Ben White, said, “We are launching eSIMs because our MVNO partners want to offer their customers a more simple, sustainable and convenient way to join Optus’ strong, nationwide network. Now, customers of our wholesale partners will have a simple new way of connecting without needing to acquire a physical SIM card.
“eSIMs allow customers the option to have two numbers on one device, potentially eliminating the need to carry around both a work phone and a personal phone. It also provides more Australians with new ways to make more sustainable, environmentally friendly changes to their everyday lives.”
The latest SIM card evolution will have customers begin their journey by scanning a QR code to activate the eSIM. The provision of eSIMs for wholesale customers is consistent with Optus’ ethos to provide its MVNO partners the latest technologies available.
Optus Wholesale was recently named ‘Best Host Operator’ globally at the 2022 MVNO World Congress held in Berlin, Germany. The award recognises the very best in operational achievements, innovation and excellence in the industry around the world.
