Our acknowledgement

Optus acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands, waters and skies across Australia. We pay our respects to Elders past and present and honour the strength and continuity of the world’s oldest living cultures. We recognise that connection and communication have always been central to First Nations communities. We are committed to learning from this legacy and to supporting a future where connection is accessible, safe and inclusive for all.

Artwork: ‘Community and the Ocean’. This collaborative work is by five proud Gunggandji artists and reflects the intertwined nature of people and place in Yarrabah.

A More Connected Future

At Optus, every connection matters. For First Nations peoples, connection is about more than technology - it’s about culture, Country, family, and opportunity. We remain focused on building pathways for greater connectivity, digital inclusion, and cultural respect.

Connecting community

The Yarrabah South tower demonstrates the impact of community, government and industry working together to deliver meaningful outcomes for regional and First Nations communities. Optus continues to support co-investment for greater mobile coverage and resilience under the Government’s Mobile Blackspots Program.

Celebrating culture

We’re proud to have supported iconic cultural events such as the Yabun Festival, Koori Knockout, Yarrabah Music and Cultural Festival, Burramatta and the Moriarty Cup. By supporting these gatherings, we’re ensuring connection is present where community spirit is strongest.

Creating pathways

The KARI Optus Scholarship Program brings together First Nations students to build the confidence and skills to pursue education and career goals. Students receive financial support and mentorship from the KARI Foundation’s Community Programs team and mentors from Optus.

Reconciliation Action Plan

Our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) reflects our ambition to be a better Optus: one that listens, learns and acts; earns trust through accountability; and contributes positively within our sphere of influence for First Nations peoples, communities and businesses.

2026 - 2028 Innovate RAP

This RAP builds on the foundations of our Reflect RAP. It contains 72 wide-ranging actions that we’ve committed to over 2 years, addressing digital inclusion, cultural awareness within the organisation, employment and procurement opportunities.
