It was a very special weekend for Chaz Mostert, as the Supercars champion marked his 200th race with Walkinshaw TWG Racing on the Sunday, and achieved three top ten finishes across the three race weekend in Townsville.

The 100km race on the Friday kicked off the weekend with a solid start – Chaz qualified well and started the race in P4, but quickly turned that into P2 once the race started. Some laps later, Chaz conceded two positions as driver Matt Payne made a move down the inside of Mostert’s car. After a four tyre change on lap 18, Chaz rejoined the grid in P5, which he held onto until the end of the race.

“A solid qualifying session today, starting on the second row. Sammy and the crew did an awesome job rolling out a strong package to start our weekend,” Chaz said.

Saturday brought a longer 200km race, with Chaz qualifying and starting from P9. He kept it clean throughout the race and finished in P7.

“I had some good battles out there and the crew executed well in the lane, we just overall didn’t have the pace to be fighting further up the front,” Chaz added.

Sunday was really special, and we wanted to make a big show of it. With the Sunday race marking Chaz Mostert’s 200th race with Walkinshaw TWG Racing team, we took a step back and replaced the Optus logo with a bold 200 for the the Supercar champion’s milestone day.

Congratulations Chaz, you’re an absolute rocket on the track. We recorded Chaz’s reaction to the special livery, which you can watch here on Instagram.

Onto the race, Chaz qualified P6 and started from that position, keeping it clean again, and making his way up to P3. Chaz finished fourth, capping off an overall strong weekend.

“Well, there you have it, P4 for our 200th race with the Team in Townsville, we were so close to a belt buckle, but those front three guys are super quick this weekend,” Chaz said.

“Really proud of our guys and girls, we made a lot of inroads throughout the weekend, qualifying all three races in the top 10 and three top 10 race results too. A massive thank you to Optus for what they did with their branding on the car today, it looked mega out there, just a shame we couldn’t put it on the podium.”
