    TERMS & CONDITIONS

    General

Fair Go Policy applies to all Optus internet, voice and add-on services. Offer available to credit approved customers. Available in selected areas.

These plans are subscription plans that do not include paper bills and require you to set up automatic payments (i.e. direct debit) via a credit, debit or charge card as the only payment method for these plans. Automatic payments from a bank account is not an option. See “Payment Information” below for more details.

    Serviceability

The 5G Internet service is only available in selected areas on the Optus 5G Network with the modem supplied by Optus. There may be technical or other reasons that affect your ability to access the service at your address. The service qualification check is an indication that you are within 5G coverage, it does not guarantee that your address is 5G serviceable. If you are unable to establish a 5G connection within the first 30 days, Optus reserves the right to:

    • cancel your service contract with us; or
    • offer an alternative home internet service.

The 5G Internet service must be used at the address provided during the service check. If at any time it’s detected that the Optus provided modem has been (or is being) used at a different location other than that provided to Optus in the original service check (i.e., service address), Optus reserves the right to suspend or cancel your 5G Internet service. If you decide to move, you will need to refer to “Relocating to a new address” below for more information.

    Installation

You can self-install the 5G Internet Service. We recommend that you position the modem close to a window to maximise signal strength.

Equipment needs and Device Payment Plan

To use the service, you will need the Optus provided 5G modem and an Optus SIM. The cost of this device is $468.  However, Optus will cover the $468 cost of the device if you remain connected for 36 months on a Device Payment Plan (DPP). During the 36-month term of the DPP, your device payments will be reduced by a prorated, monthly credit over the term of the DPP.

You will need to remain on an eligible Optus 5G Internet plan for the term of your DPP. If you cancel your eligible plan or move to an ineligible plan before the expiry of your DPP, your DPP will be cancelled and you’ll need to pay out the remaining device payments in full, calculated as $13 multiplied by the number of months remaining on Device Payment Plan (Remaining Device Payment Fee) and any applicable device credits or discounts will be forfeited. This is subject to your Australian Consumer Law rights.

    Speed

The Typical Busy Period Speeds advertised are the typical expected download and upload speeds experienced between 7pm and 11pm, which is the busy time for residential consumer Internet traffic (based on a representative group of customers). The actual speed you will experience at any given time will vary depending on a number of factors including network (i.e., signal, proximity, line of sight, or congestion), location (i.e., modem placement, distance from the Optus 5G tower, geography, obstructions), and other factors (such as weather,  hardware, software). Depending on which 5G Internet plan you’re on, you are covered by our 40Mbps or 50Mbps Satisfaction Guarantee. See optus.com.au/5gspeeds to learn more.

In the event of an interruption to the Optus 5G Network service, your service may continue to operate on the Optus 4G Plus Network (if available) depending on the nature of the interruption. Learn more about 5G Internet speeds.

The Optus 40Mbps Speed Satisfaction Guarantee

If at any time during the term of your eligible plan , you’re not satisfied that you are getting download speeds of at least 40Mbps, or you cannot receive a 5G signal at your service address, simply report the issue that you are having to us, and we will investigate the issue. Optus reserves the right to independently test the speed of your connection to verify that you are receiving a connection speed of less than 40Mbps. If your issue is within the terms of the 40Mbps Speed Satisfaction Guarantee, we will confirm your eligibility to cancel your service and Device Payment Plan (DPP) under the Guarantee. Cancellation is effective immediately following this confirmation. You must return the Optus 5G modem to us in good working order within 30 days of cancellation or you will be charged the remaining cost of your modem in one lump sum, calculated as $13 x no. of months remaining on your DPP (Remaining Device Payment Fee).

This Guarantee does not affect your rights under any law. Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. For major failures with the service, you are entitled:

    • to cancel your service contract with us; and
    • to a refund for the unused portion, or to compensation for its reduced value.

If a failure with the service does not amount to a major failure, you are entitled to have the failure rectified in a reasonable time. If this is not done, you are entitled to cancel the contract for the service and obtain a refund of any unused portion. You are also entitled to be compensated for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage from a failure in the service.

The Optus 50Mbps Speed Satisfaction Guarantee

If at any time during the term of your eligible plan,, you’re not satisfied that you are getting download speeds of at least 50Mbps, or you cannot receive a 5G signal at your service address, simply report the issue that you are having to us, and we will investigate the issue. Optus reserves the right to independently test the speed of your connection to verify that you are receiving a connection speed of less than 50Mbps. If your issue is within the terms of the 50Mbps Speed Satisfaction Guarantee, we will confirm your eligibility to cancel your service and Device Payment Plan (DPP) under the Guarantee.

    Optus 5G Standalone (SA)

Available for eligible customers on the Optus 5G network.

Optus 5G SA is currently available for new and recontracting 5G home internet customers using an Optus Ultra WiFi 5G modem on an eligible plan, who purchase or recontract to an eligible plan from 26 August 2024.

All other existing customers using an Optus Ultra WiFi 5G modem on eligible plans will gain access to 5G SA at a later date – timing to be confirmed.

    Payment Information

You will be automatically charged via your selected credit, debit or charge card at the start of each payment cycle for recurring charges. By signing up to these plans, you are agreeing to the Optus automatic payment terms at optus.com.au/about/legal/automatic-payment-terms. For further details visit optus.com.au/paymentsetup.

An electronic tax invoice will be provided after payment. We do not provide paper bills or invoices for these plans. You can view your Invoices and update your payment details at any time in My Optus app or by visiting MyAccount.

As your payment method is required to be automatic payments in the form of direct debit from a credit, debit or charge card, there are no processing fees. For more info, go to optus.com.au/payments.

Minimum term and minimum total cost

New and existing customers can connect to a 5G Internet plan on a month-to-month contract. The minimum total cost for each month-to-month plan is calculated by adding the full device costs (if any) and one month of the applicable plan fee.

Minimum term and charging commence when your service is activated. Service activation occurs when the modem is delivered to your address or if in-store, when the modem is handed to you.

Changes to Plans (month to month)

We may make changes to your month-to-month home internet plan, including to the price or inclusions. This could include moving you to a new plan, which may cost more. We’ll give at least 30 days’ notice of any increase to plan access fees or adverse plan changes.

    Cancellation fees

You can cancel your plan at any time by notifying us. You will not receive a refund of charges paid in advance for the remainder of your payment cycle, unless otherwise set out in our agreement and subject to your consumer law rights. Any related device payment plan will be cancelled, and you’ll need to pay out any remaining device payments in full and any other charges owing, as a one-off payment.

For Netflix subscription via SubHub - If you wish to retain access to Netflix after cancelling your plan in SubHub, you can set up alternative payment methods. Contact Netflix to discuss billing options. See “Netflix and Optus SubHub” terms below for more information.

    Relocating to a new address

If you are moving to an area where 5G Home Internet is not currently available, Optus will endeavour to provide an alternative service that may be available within the new area and will cease providing the existing 5G Home Internet service.

Before relocating to a new address, you must contact us to perform a service qualification check to determine if 5G Internet is available at your new address. If your new address is not 5G serviceable, we will offer you an alternative broadband service. If you choose not to proceed with any alternative Optus home internet service offered, you must return the modem within 30 days in good working order, in order to cancel your Device Payment Plan. If the modem is not returned in good working order within 30 days, you will be required to pay the Remaining Device Payment Fee (if any).

    Netflix and SubHub

Optus SubHub is a platform for you to manage a selection of your paid subscriptions with ease by uniting them together in one place.

The 5G Internet Entertainer Superfast plan includes a Netflix Standard plan (available via Optus SubHub platform).

Access to the Netflix service is provided to you by Netflix Australia Pty Ltd. The internet and other services and features included in the 5G Internet Entertainer Superfast plan are provided by Optus

    • To activate or link Netflix to SubHub, you will first need to set up a SubHub account via the SubHub platform using your MyAccount login credentials.
    • To enjoy Netflix as part of your 5G Internet Entertainer Superfast plan, Netflix must be activated via the SubHub platform or a tokenized link.
    • If you already have an existing Netflix account, this will need to be linked to your 5G Internet Entertainer Superfast plan when you activate Netflix as part of your plan. You will be asked to enter your Netflix login credentials to link your account. Netflix will continue to charge you separately for any existing Netflix account until it is linked to your 5G Internet Entertainer Superfast plan. For any queries regarding the billing of your existing Netflix account by Netflix, please contact Netflix directly.
    • If your existing Netflix account is billed through Apple, you will need to cancel your Apple billing arrangement to avoid being double billed for Netflix when you activate your 5G Internet Entertainer Superfast plan.
    • Optus is not able to activate your SubHub account or Netflix on your behalf. Your personal subscriptions in SubHub can only be privately managed by you. Accordingly, it is your responsibility to ensure you activate and link your Netflix account to obtain the benefit of your 5G Internet Entertainer Superfast plan.
    • The pricing benefit of the Netflix inclusion is not available to the customer until activation of your 5G service.
    • If you activate your Netflix inclusion before your 5G service is active, you will be separately charged for Netflix by Optus until activation of your 5G service.
    • Netflix content is not viewed via the SubHub platform. Customers will need to log in and use Netflix on their device.
    • Currently, customers who buy more than one internet plan which include Netflix (whether it is with an nbn or 5G internet service) will only receive the benefit of one (1) Netflix Standard plan. If Optus is made aware that you’ve purchased more than one internet plan with Optus which includes Netflix, we will contact you to discuss your options and/or to help ensure you’re on the right plans.
    • If you cancel your 5G Entertainer Superfast plan and you:
      • still have still have a SubHub account connected to an Optus Service (e.g., an Optus mobile service or you transfer to another Optus internet plan), then your Netflix account will not be automatically cancelled. Rather, Optus will commence billing you for your Netflix account separately at the current retail price unless you cancel Netflix in SubHub; or
      • have no other Optus Service connected to SubHub, then:
        • For customers that were previously Netflix members, Netflix will automatically resume charging the payment method that they have on file for you once your Internet Entertainer Superfast offer ends. If you wish to review the details of your Netflix account, please visit the ‘Account’ page on the Netflix website.
        • For customers that were not previously Netflix members, your Netflix account will be placed on hold unless you transfer your billing arrangements to Netflix or another third party provider.

Other Inclusions, optional add ons and services

Charges may apply for optional extras including entertainment services. By signing up to an optional extra, you agree that it is subject to change including cancellation. 5G Home Internet FAQs

    What is 5G home internet?

5G literally stands for the 5th Generation of internet. It is available for use in homes across Australia in areas in which the Optus 5G network is available.

Check your address for Optus 5G network availability on our website.

What is the difference between nbn and 5G?

The nbn® provides internet via a hard-wired broadband network. 5G is a wireless internet network. Optus 5G Home Internet offers super-fast speeds, unlimited data and an easy to connect modem. Fair Go Policy applies.

What speeds are available on Optus 5G home internet plans?

Speeds are variable on the Optus 5G Network.

On the $69 Optus Plus Everyday 5G plan, download speeds are capped at a maximum speed of 50Mbps and currently has Typical busy period speeds of 50/11Mbps between 7pm-11pm.

On the $79 Optus Plus Everyday Fast 5G plan, download speeds are capped at a maximum speed of 100Mbps and currently has Typical busy period speeds of 87/15Mbps between 7pm-11pm.

On the $99 Optus Plus Entertainer Superfast 5G plan, customers are provided with access to uncapped download speeds on Optus 5G network that currently has Typical busy period speeds of 230/20Mbps between 7pm-11pm.

How do I check my 5G Internet speed?

If you have a Nokia Gateway 3 5G Modem, you may be able to test the speed of your internet connection through your modem. If this functionality is available, you can swipe across to the ‘Speed’ screen and touch the ‘TEST’ button, the screen will then display the testing screen and your results should appear in under 60 seconds.

Alternatively, you can perform a speed test within the My Optus App. Simply click on the ‘Help’ in the menu bar, and under the ‘Tools’ section select the ‘Test you Broadband speed’. Hit ‘Go’ to perform the speed test.

If you have the Optus Ultra WiFi 5G Modem, you can perform a speed test through Network Pulse in the My Optus App. You can access this tool here.

Does 5G home internet come with unlimited data?

Yes, with Optus, you get unlimited data on all 5G plans, so you’ve got plenty of data to connect your whole home to 5G home internet. Usage is subject to our Fair Go Policy.

How do I set up my new 5G modem?

Simply unpack the 5G modem, insert your nano sim card, power the modem, check the modem screen and connect the devices to the WiFi. To enjoy seriously fast speeds with Optus 5G Home Internet, you’ll need to find the right spot for the modem in your home or office. The 5G modem needs to be located in a room or area of your home or office close to a nearby Optus 5G tower and free of obstructions. This may be different from where your current modem is located. To set up your modem, you’ll need to open or download My Optus app. The app will show Optus 5G towers in your area to help you position your modem facing a window, closest to the nearby tower.

You can also explore our quick start guide or visit our 5G support page.

I’m a gamer. Is 5G Home Internet right for me?

Optus 5G Home Internet product is designed to offer you the best possible experience as per the latest evolution of the technology With 2x times faster speeds than previous WiFi, being able to connect up to 128 devices, you'd be able to use Optus 5G Home Internet to play online if you are a casual gamer and/or if the latency is not the most critical concern to you. However, the technology is not evolved enough to offer single-digit milliseconds latency yet. So, if you are a professional gamer and/or if single-digit milliseconds latency is important to you then this product is not the right fit for you at this point in time.

When will 5G home internet be available in my area?

5G is rolling out across Australia. Optus gives you the ability to check your desired address for Optus 5G Network availability on our website.

What if I move home with 5G?

If eligible, you may be able to continue using your 5G Home Internet service at your new service address.

If you are moving to an area where 5G Home Internet is not currently available, Optus will endeavour to provide available Optus home internet services within the new area and will cease providing the existing 5G Home Internet service. If you choose not to proceed with any home internet service with Optus, you will need to return your 5G modem in good working order within 30 days. If the modem is not returned in good working order within 30 days, you will be required to pay the Remaining Device Payment Fee, calculated as $13 x no. of months remaining on your Device Payment Plan.

    Things you need to know

    5G Plan Details

Will the speeds on the Optus Plus Entertainer Superfast 5G plan be faster than that of the Optus Plus Everyday Fast 5G Plan?

While the Optus Plus Entertainer Superfast 5G plan offers our fastest 5G speeds, the download and upload speeds you can obtain on these plans will not necessarily always be greater than the download and upload speed you can obtain on the Optus Plus Everyday Fast 5G plan. However, based on our current data, the Optus Plus Entertainer Superfast 5G plan has Typical busy period speeds of 230/20Mbps during the busy period of 7pm-11pm, with approximately 80% of the representative sample of customers tested experiencing over 100Mbps.

Both plans are covered by the 50Mbps Satisfaction Guarantee.

What is not supported by 5G Home Internet?

The 5G Home Internet service does not support fixed line telephone, international roaming, data sharing, back-to-base security or medical alarm systems, or a Static IP address. This service may not be suitable if you have a serious illness or condition and require an uninterrupted service.

I currently have a Fetch Mini/Mighty included in my plan; can I keep Fetch if I switch to a new plan?

Yes, you can! You will need to switch your existing Fetch service to a standalone plan. You can use the chat function on My Optus App or speak with one of our friendly staff members in store. Alternatively, contact us on 1300 101 693.

    Speed Satisfaction Guarantee

Which Speed Satisfaction Guarantee applies to my plan?

On the $69 Optus Plus Everyday 5G plan, customers have a 40Mbps Satisfaction Guarantee.

On the $79 Optus Plus Everyday Fast 5G plan and the $99 Optus Plus Entertainer Superfast 5G plan, customers have a 50Mbps Satisfaction Guarantee.

What is the Optus 40Mbps Speed Satisfaction Guarantee?

If at any time during the term of your eligible plan, you’re not satisfied that you are getting download speeds of at least 40Mbps, or you cannot receive a 5G signal at your service address or simply report the issue that you are having, and we will investigate the issue.

This Guarantee does not affect your rights under any law, including guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. See “Optus 40Mbps Satisfaction Guarantee” under “Important Information” on the 5G Home Internet page for the terms of this Guarantee.

    5G Offers and Inclusions

How does the Device Payment Plan for the modem work?

The full cost of the Optus 5G modem is $468. However, Optus will cover this cost if you remain connected for 36 months on a Device Payment Plan (DPP). During the 36-month term of the DPP, your device payments will be reduced by a prorated, monthly credit over the term of the DPP (i.e. $13/mth credit over 36 months). You will need to remain on an eligible Optus 5G Internet plan for the term of your DPP. If you cancel your eligible plan or move to an ineligible plan before the expiry of your DPP, your DPP will be cancelled and you’ll need to pay out the remaining device payments in full, with any applicable device credits or discounts being forfeited (so you will pay Remaining Device Payment Fee calculated as $13 multiplied by the number of months remaining in on the DPP). This is subject to your Australian Consumer Law rights.

    5G Modem

Do I need a new modem for 5G at home?

5G requires a specific 5G modem to connect to the network. You will need a new modem if your current modem is not 5G compatible. Optus includes a modem in your plan at no extra cost when you stay connected to Optus 5G for 36 months.

Can I use the 5G modem with another network provider other than Optus?

Yes, the 5G modem is not locked. However, the nano SIM card provided will only work on the Optus supplied 5G modem. If you choose to use the modem with another network provider other than Optus, you will need to contact your network provider for instructions.

How do I return the Optus 5G modem?

You may need to return your 5G modem to Optus for a number of reasons, such as:

    ·  returning under warranty a modem that is faulty (through no fault of your own);
    ·  you have relocated to a new address where 5G home internet is not serviceable;
    ·  you are eligible to claim the 40 Mbps or 50Mbps Satisfaction Guarantee; or
    ·  any other reason we’ve agreed with you.

If Optus has asked you to return your 5G modem due to any of the above circumstances, Optus will send customers a QR code and instructions on how to return the device and all accessories that came in the box (e.g. the power supply). You will need to return the modem to any Australia Post store/outlet.

5G Internet Service Coverage and Relocation

What happens if I do a service qualification check and Optus confirms my address is not 5G serviceable?

If your address is not 5G-serviceable, you can lodge your expression of interest and we will notify you if your address becomes 5G serviceable.

Is Optus 5G Home Internet available to people living in apartments?

Yes, however this depends on the specific location within the apartment and if the building is in a serviceable 5G area.

Will Optus be expanding the 5G footprint?

Yes, at Optus we’re committed to the continual expansion of our 5G network.

How do I find out the latest information about 5G?

You can visit www.optus.com.au/5G to find out the latest information about Optus 5G services.

    Netflix and SubHub

How do I activate SubHub for my plan’s Netflix inclusion?

You can activate your SubHub account via the SubHub platform at subhub.optus.com.au or via the link in the My Optus app. You will need to use your Optus My Account customer login details to log in.

To add content service subscriptions (including Netflix) to your SubHub platform, you can follow the sign-up process on the SubHub platform.

What if I purchase an Optus Plus Entertainer Superfast 5G plan but do not activate Netflix via SubHub?

The pricing benefit of your plan’s Netflix inclusion is not available to you until you activate your Netflix subscription or link an existing Netflix subscription via the SubHub platform using your MyAccount login credentials.

Optus is not able to activate your SubHub account or Netflix Subscription on your behalf as your personal subscriptions in SubHub can only be managed by you. Accordingly, it is your responsibility to ensure you create and/or activate your Netflix subscription in SubHub in order to obtain the pricing benefit of your plan’s Netflix inclusion.

For more information, please refer to the below FAQ: “When should I activate Netflix via SubHub, if I purchased an Optus Plus Entertainer Superfast 5G plan?”

When should I activate Netflix via SubHub if I purchased an Optus Plus Entertainer Superfast 5G plan?

The pricing benefit of your Netflix inclusion is not available until your 5G service is active. If you activate or link your Netflix subscription in SubHub before your 5G service is active, you will be separately charged for Netflix  by Optus until your 5G service is active.

If you do not want to be charged for your Netflix subscription, we recommend waiting until  your 5G service is active before you activate your Netflix subscription in SubHub.

What if I am already a Netflix Subscriber?

Existing Netflix subscribers can easily link their current Netflix account when they activate via SubHub. Upon activation their previous billing method will be paused, so charging from Netflix will stop while their account remains linked with Optus. For any further questions, please contact Netflix Customer Service here.

Do I need to cancel my current Netflix subscription?

No, once your internet service is active you will receive a notification with steps on how to transfer your existing Netflix account over to SubHub.

How do I get my Netflix refund once I activate it in SubHub?

If you are currently signed-up to a Netflix standalone account (i.e., not via Optus SubHub) and you decide to move it over to Optus SubHub, you can do so. Then, once you have moved your account across to SubHub, you will need to contact Netflix to receive a prorated refund for the part of your subscription that you didn’t use.

You can do this by contacting Netflix customer service, and having the charge refunded.

Can I have two SubHub accounts on one Optus account?

No, you can only have one SubHub account per eligible Optus account.

What if I buy more than one plan with a standard Netflix subscription included (Netflix bundle plan)?

Currently, if you buy more than one plan with a Netflix inclusion (whether it is with an nbn or 5G internet plan), you will only receive the benefit of one Standard Netflix subscription. If Optus is made aware that you’ve purchased more than one internet plan with Optus which includes Netflix, we will contact you to discuss your options and/or to help ensure you’re on the right plans.

Can I add an additional household to my Netflix subscription that comes included on the 5G Family Entertainer Superfast plan?

Extra members are not available to add onto your Netflix subscription that comes included with the 5G Family Entertainer Superfast plan yet, for more information visit Netflix.

    Automatic Payment Plans

What are the differences between the new "Plus" Internet/Phone plans (From Sept 12) and the previous Internet/Phone plans (prior Sept 12)?

Our new Internet plans are sold on a subscription basis that have a set monthly payment amount to avoid any 'bill shock'. Simply choose your plan and set up your automatic monthly payment (i.e. direct debit) by credit, debit or charge card (automatic payment from a bank account is not permitted).

Your monthly charge(s) will be automatically paid on an upfront basis using your automatic payment from your nominated credit, debit or charge card. An electronic tax invoice will be available once your payment has been processed and you will no longer receive a monthly bill.

We will not be providing any paper invoices or bills for these plans. You'll be able to manage your payment details, view your upcoming and past payments and check usage information in MyAccount or My Optus app (MOA).

How do I pay for my new Home Internet/Phone plan?

Your new "Plus" Internet/Phone plans plan will be charged automatically (i.e. direct debited) each month from your nominated credit, debit or charge card payment on an upfront basis.

You can update these payment details anytime in My Account or My Optus app (we do not permit automatic payment from bank account).

Once your payment is successful, you will be able to view your Tax Invoice in My Account or My Optus app.

Can I use a different payment method?

For the "Plus" Internet/Phone plans, you are required to set up and maintain your automatic monthly payment (i.e, direct debit) from your credit, debit or charge card (we do not permit automatic payment from bank account).

You'll be able to manage your payment details and view your upcoming and past payments and check usage information in My Account or My Optus app.

What happens if my payment fails?

If your automatic payment fails, we will send you a friendly reminder to check your payment details are correct and sufficient funds are available. If payment is still not received, your service may be restricted or cancelled.

Where can I access my tax invoices and update payment details?

You'll be able to manage your payment details and view your upcoming and past payments via My Account or My Optus app.
