How to redeem Upgrade and Protect

If you already have Upgrade and Protect you can redeem online in 3 simple steps:

1. Order your new phone

Add your new phone to cart with a payment plan. Complete a credit  assessment and answer three simple questions to find out your redemption fee.

2. Get your old phone ready

Once you receive your new device, we’ll send you an e-Parcel label with instructions via email on how to  get started with returning your old device for assessment.

3. Return your old device

Return your old phone via the provided e-Parcel or an Optus store within 3 days. If you don't do this within 3 days, you will need to pay out your remaining device repayments on the phone.

Alternatively, you can redeem at an Optus store. Upgrade and Protect does not apply to lost or stolen devices, redemption can only be processed once your old device has been returned.

when you return your damaged device and upgrade to a new eligible device on a new device payment plan. Does not cover lost or stolen devices.

Front screen repair:

Pay $99.00

to book an appointment to repair your damaged front screen. Does not apply to back glass or repair of any damage other than screen issues.

How to get Upgrade and Protect

  1. Add Upgrade and Protect to your plan for just $15 a month when you buy or upgrade to an eligible phone on a 12, 24 or 36 month payment plan.
  2. Or choose the Promo Plan and get Optus Upgrade and Protect included for $0/month on a device payment plan.

Terms and conditions

Optus Upgrade and Protect: Available with purchase of an eligible device using OptusPay on a new eligible plan. N/A for outright purchase. Monthly recurring subscription fee (currently $15/mth) charged to your nominated automatic payment method.

Upgrade redemptions can be made during the device payment plan term by returning device as directed by Optus, paying applicable fees (if any) and purchasing a new device using OptusPay on a new eligible plan (subject to standard credit assessment).

Front screen replenishment service (includes sub-screen for foldable devices) can be booked during the device payment plan term through our third party service provider, subject to parts and technician availability, on payment of applicable fees. The device must be free of any other defects.

Upgrade redemptions and front screen replenishment can’t be completed in first 30 days of your Optus Upgrade and Protect subscription. Cancel at any time. Excludes lost or stolen devices.

What is Optus Upgrade and Protect?

A: Optus Upgrade and Protect is a $15/mth add-on available when purchasing a new mobile or tablet on a device payment plan that gives you access to early upgrade options, even if your device is damaged. Upgrade fees may apply depending on the condition of your device and months remaining on your device payment plan. You can cancel your subscription at anytime. What is good working order?

A: An Eligible Device is undamaged and in good working order if it is fully functional and not physically damaged beyond normal wear and tear. To see more visit  our help and support article.

Can I purchase Optus Upgrade and Protect if I'm already paying off a device?

A: Optus Upgrade and Protect is available to new and recontracting mobile service customers who purchase a new device on an eligible 12, 24 or 36 month device payment plan with an eligible SIM plan. The add-on is available at online checkout to Optus Consumer and Business customers. This is not available for customers who purchase their device outright.

Will I need to complete credit assessment when I upgrade my device?

A: Yes. This is a condition that applies whenever you wish to enter into an eligible device payment plan.

Does Optus Upgrade and Protect cover lost or stolen devices?

A: As there is a requirement for you to send back your device to us, Optus Upgrade and Protect does not cover lost and stolen devices.

How do I pay for Optus Upgrade and Protect?

A: You will be charged the monthly subscription fee via credit, debit or charge card (for Optus Choice Plus plans) or via your Optus bill using your nominated payment method (for customers who receive a bill). You'll be able to manage your payment method and view your upcoming and past payments via MyAccount or My Optus app.

How do I determine the condition of my device?

A: You will need to download the Optus Device Check app from the App Store or Google Play Store and follow the steps to complete the assessment of your device.

How do I redeem Optus Upgrade and Protect?

A: Visit an Optus branded retail store within 3 days after you have completed a device condition assessment. Based on the length of time you have spent on your current OptusPay device payment plan, and the condition of your existing device, fees may apply to redeem. Follow Optus' instructions to return your existing device - failure to do so will result in non-return fees being charged.

What happens to my old device?

A: Devices returned as part of Optus Upgrade and Protect are securely cleansed of all data and repurposed by our second-hand device vendor or recycled to put the materials to another use.

Who is eligible for Optus Upgrade and Protect?

A: Optus Upgrade and Protect is available to new and recontracting mobile & mobile service customers purchasing a new device on an eligible 12, 24 or 36 month device payment plan with an eligible SIM plan. The add-on is available to Optus Consumer and Business customers.

Where can I access the Premium Device Support Portal?

If you have an active Optus Upgrade and Protect add-on on your service, you can access self-serve Device Support.

How do I get a front screen repair?

Book an appointment by calling 1300 990 226 and we can come to you or you can send us your device. Depending on your location, a qualified technician will come to your home or workplace during business hours to repair the front screen of your device. If a technician can’t come to your address, we’ll send out an eParcel so you can send your device to the repairer.

Only genuine parts are used.

In-person repairs can take up to an hour. If you need to reschedule your appointment date, please call 1300 990 226. Giving less than 24-hour notice or missing your appointment may incur a $99 call-out fee.

If you mail in your device and it has damage we don't repair, has any locks on it, or doesn't match the device on your account, you may incur a $20 return fee.

Our repairs come with 12 months warranty, which covers defects in materials and workmanship relating to your service. This is in addition to your consumer rights.

Do you repair phones that have more damage than just the front screen?

No. We only repair cracked/chipped or shattered front screens, LCD bleeding, blank screen, dead pixels, discoloration of LCD, or touch screen faults. We do not cover water damage, internal damage, etc. If your device has more damage than just the screen, please reach out to your nearest Optus store to do a damaged upgrade.

What is the front screen repair window on the day of the appointment?

The appointment will be scheduled between 9:00am and 5:00pm. An email confirming your appointment time will be sent the morning of the repair day.
