5G Home Internet: Changing your WiFi name and password

Your Optus 5G Home Internet modem comes with a default WiFi network.

In this article, we'll show you how to change your WiFi network name and password for the Optus Ultra WiFi 5G Home Internet and Nokia FastMile 5G Gateway 3 modems.

If you received your modem before 11 October 2021 and need help to change your WiFi name and password, contact us.

  • To secure your WiFi network
  • To personalise your WiFi network name and password

You can find the default WiFi network name and password printed on the sticker on the base of your modem, or on the WiFi fridge magnet.

Tip! You should always pick a password that's strong, secure and easy to remember.

Important: If you perform a factory reset, the WiFi network name and password will be changed back to its default.

Follow the steps to change your WiFi network name & password for the Optus Ultra WiFi 5G Home Internet modem:

  1. Log into the modem GUI:
    • Open a web browser
    • Enter the modem IP address http://192.168.0.1 into the Search bar or scan the QR code on the base of the modem
    • The User Interface will be presented
  2. Select My WiFI then the Basic tab
  3. Leave Hide WiFi name (SSID) set to Off
  4. We recommend you leave WiFi security as WPA2 Personal
  5. Enter your preferred new WiFi password into the WiFi password field
  6. Re-enter your preferred new WiFi password into the Confirm password field
  7. We recommend you leave Channel selection for both bands as the default
  8. Click Apply

We recommend you repeat the process to change both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless connection types.

Naming the 2.4GHz and 5GHz the same will ensure the modem connects to whichever signal is stronger. If you'd like to control this manually, please use a different WiFi name (SSID) for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz sections.
