How to change or remove OptusNet email addresses

In this article we'll explain the difference between a primary and secondary email account and how to change or remove email addresses.

Note: From 22/05/23, new OptusNet email addresses cannot be created. Customers with existing OptusNet email addresses can continue to use them but must retain an eligible Optus service. An eligible Optus service currently includes a mobile broadband, nbn, 4G Home Internet, 5G Home Internet, mobile (excluding prepaid) Fetch and connected devices; and does not include Optus Sport.

When you signed up to an nbn® Home Internet, or Mobile Broadband service, you may have been given access to a primary OptusNet email account.

Your primary OptusNet email address is the same as your Internet username. You can find your Internet username listed under the Service Summary on your bill / tax invoice.

If you know your password, you can change it via Webmail.

If you've forgotten your password, you'll need to have it reset by contacting us.

Prior to 22/05/23 it was possible for some customers to create up to 14 secondary OptusNet email addresses.

The account holder can change their secondary email account usernames, but from 22/05/23 cannot add new secondary email accounts.

Secondary email accounts can't be removed individually. If you'd like to remove a secondary email account, all linked OptusNet email accounts (including the primary account) will need to be removed. Any accounts you'd like to keep can be recreated by us.

Please note the below impacts will apply to all linked OptusNet email accounts if you'd like a secondary one removed:

  • All content in the email accounts will be lost
  • The email accounts you'd like to keep will be recreated. Any content previously stored in the accounts won't be reinstated

To change or remove secondary email accounts, get in touch with us.

If you access your Optusnet email on multiple devices, IMAP is the recommended method. POP is an alternate method, however POP doesn't allow several different devices to access the same email.

POP - downloads the email to that device (e.g. computer) only and does not share onto other devices (e.g. mobile phone, tablet)

IMAP - This allows the emails to share across devices. (e.g. computer, tablet and mobile phone)
