Optus PayID

Optus PayID is a unique one-time code created by us that allows you to use your internet banking or banking app to make payments for your Optus prepaid services such as recharges, device unlocks and voucher purchases.

We receive your payment in real-time and will process your transaction within seconds of payment. You can also share your one-time Optus PayID with others who can make a payment on your behalf.

For more info, see payid.com.au.

Note: In some rare cases, security checks may delay payments.

We suggest checking with your financial institution on the specific process for your banking app with PayID. The below steps are only a guide.

Generally, you can follow these steps once you've received your unique Optus PayID:

  • Go to your internet banking / banking app
  • Find where to make a payment section
  • Look for a payment with the PayID option
  • Enter your PayID
  • Confirm the details are correct and enter the amount
  • You can now confirm, submit or make payment

We'll automatically recharge your account or unlock your device once we receive your payment.

Note: To request an Optus PayID, text MENU to 9999 and follow the recharge prompts or call 555 from your prepaid service and select the recharge option.

An Optus PayID will always be in the format of mobilenumber@optus.au (e.g. 04xxxxxxxx@optus.au).

If you are asked to pay Optus, and the domain is anything other than @optus.au, do not make payment and report this to abuse@optusnet.com.au

See our Cyber-safety page for more info.

FAQs

If you want to change the amount of your Optus PayID, text the word MENU to 9999 and follow the recharge prompts or call 555 from your prepaid service and select the recharge option.

If you are an Optus Prepaid customer, you can use various forms of payment including credit/debit card (must be saved first to use the 9999 SMS Menu & 555 Phone Menu) and PayPal (via the Web only).

If you are not an Optus Prepaid customer, you can only use Optus PayID to make payment for device unlocks via the Web or the 9999 SMS Menu.

We will automatically send you a PayID if you have a failed payment with us.

Alternatively, text the word MENU to 9999, and follow the recharge prompts to generate a PayID or call 555 from your prepaid service and select the recharge option.

If you use a PayID to pay for a failed AutoRecharge, we will automatically move your next AutoRecharge payment date to match the expiry of the applied Auto Recharge.

For example, if your AutoRecharge is set to recharge every 28 days, once your payment is made via PayID, your next AutoRecharge payment will be processed in 28 days from your payment date.

Your PayID will expire at midnight the day after you receive it (up to 2 days).

If your service has no data credit remaining, you will need to use WiFi to connect to your online banking or banking app to make a payment.

Today most banks and credit unions support PayID for payments via "Pay Anyone", "Pay" or similar. In fact, over 96 institutions are enabled. A complete list can be found here.

If your bank is not on the list, your unique Optus PayID can be used by a friend, or family member, to make the payment on your behalf from their bank.
