Device Protect insurance

Device Protect gives you peace of mind in the case of loss, theft, or accidental damage. Select from the options below for help with making a claim or cancelling your insurance.

Note. Device Protect insurance is no longer available to customers purchasing new devices. Please note, customers with an existing device covered by Device Protect Insurance will have no change to their policy. For more information, refer to the FAQs option below.

To make a claim with Optus Device Protect insurance you can:

  • Lodge your claim online; or
  • Contact us on 1800 501 971 and select option 1 (Mon-Fri 8am-6pm; Sat 9am-6pm; Sun 10am-6pm; all times AEST)


To make a claim: 
You must be the account holder and your Optus insurance must be valid at the time of the incident. Your account must not have any outstanding charges owing (apart from any amounts in dispute).

Lost or stolen device

See our checklist on what to do if your device is lost/stolen. Within 48 hours of the incident and before submitting your claim, you will need to report the loss to the Police and Optus who will block your device's IMEI. Ensure you have your IMEI number on hand when calling us and the Police claim number when lodging your claim.

Depending on availability and location, we will replace your device within 2 business days of approving your claim.

Accidental damage or breakdown

You must still have the device in your possession to make a claim for damage or breakdown.

We will usually repair/replace your device within 5-10 business days of approving the claim.

When can Device Protect be purchased?
Device Protect Insurance will not be available to customers purchasing devices through Optus from 5 October 2021. This includes new customers and existing customers recontracting to a new device.



I have Device Protect on a device I'm paying off already, does this affect me?

No, there is no change to any existing device that is covered with Device Protect.



I have Device Protect already, if I recontract with a new device can I get Device Protect on it?

Unfortunately, Device Protect cannot currently be purchased for any device bought through Optus from 5 October 2021, including existing customers recontracting with a new device.



Why can I no longer purchase Device Protect?

We are stop-selling Device Protect to comply with new industry-wide legislation regarding the selling of insurance add-on products.



Can you recommend anyone else to get insurance for my device?

We are unable to make any recommendations around insurance for your device.
