An IMEI number is a globally unique 15-digit number assigned to all cellular devices, which identifies your device within the mobile network. We can use this number to block a mobile phone from being used by another person or phone company if it has been lost or stolen or to look up an unlock code if locked to the Optus Network.

To locate your IMEI number from your device, follow these simple steps:

On Screen

1. Press * # 0 6 # on your keypad

2. Press Call or Send as if making a call

3. Your IMEI number will be retrieved and displayed on your screen

4. Some devices will display two IMEIs - only use IMEI 1 for device unlocks

In Settings

iOS Devices

1. Go to Settings > General and tap About.
2. Scroll down to find the IMEI

Android Devices

1. Go to Settings
2. Tap About phone, then find IMEI.

On the back of your Device

On some newer models of phones, IMEI numbers are printed on the back of the phone.

Inside your Device

1. On some older phones, IMEI numbers are printed within the battery cavity

2. Power down your device (ensure it's disconnected from any external power supply)

3. Remove your battery

4. Locate your 15-digit IMEI number

Ok, so it sounds like you've unfortunately either lost or had your device stolen. If this is the case, and you did not record the IMEI number beforehand, there are still a number of ways to retrieve the number:

On your device's packaging

The easiest way to find your IMEI number is by returning to your original phone packaging.

1. IMEI numbers are printed on the original packaging of your device

2. Check the base and sides for your 15 digit IMEI number

Google Dashboard for Android devices

Follow the steps below in order to retrieve your cellular devices IMEI from your Google Account

1. Go to google.com/settings

2. Sign in with your Google account

3. Expand the Android tab

4. You'll now see a list of all Android devices connected to your Google account, including the IMEI number

iTunes for Apple devices

If you've ever synced your iPhone with iTunes, then the device data including the IMEI should be visible within the iTunes settings

1. Go to the iTunes > Preferences tab if you're using a Mac, or to the Edit > Preferences tab on the PC version of iTunes

2. Click on the Devices button

3. Next, go to the Summary tab

4. Now, click on your phone number twice. Your IMEI should be visible after the second time
