How to add and remove international roaming

If you'd like to use your Optus number while traveling overseas, you'll need to make sure international roaming is switched on in My Optus app. You'll also need to make sure data roaming is turned on in your device settings. 

In this article we'll show you how to add and remove international roaming.

Note:

  • If you're on an Optus Choice Plus, Optus Choice Plus Data, Optus Plus Family, Optus Plus Kids, Optus Plus Promo, Business Choice Plus, Business Choice Data Plus, Business Teams Plus or Qantas plan, Optus Daily Roaming will be automatically turned on for your number. Find more information here
  • If you're on an Business Choice, Business Choice Data or Business Teams plan, Optus Business $5 Roaming Pass will be automatically turned on for your number. Find more information here

Mobile service (excluding Prepaid)

Note: If you're on an Optus Choice Plus, Optus Plus Family, Optus Plus Promo plan, Optus Choice Plus Data Plans, Business Choice Data Plus, Business Choice Plus, Business Teams Plus and Qantas plans, Optus Daily Roaming will be automatically turned on for your number. In just a few steps you can activate international roaming from your phone, you'll just need My Optus app to begin: 

  1. Open My Optus app
  2. Tap Service from the bottom menu

  3. Tap the Settings tab
  4. Tap International Roaming
  5. Choose your preferred roaming option
  6. You'll need to review and agree to the terms and conditions
  7. Click Accept

Note: You'll need to connect to WiFi to access My Optus app if you're overseas and your international roaming isn't working.

If you'd prefer to call, you can manage your international roaming settings by contacting us. Just follow the steps below:

  1. Dial 1509 from your mobile
  2. Press 3
  3. Press 2
  4. Press 1
  5. Press 1 to hear pricing and 2 to turn roaming on or off

Prepaid service

In just a few steps you can activate or deactivate international roaming from your phone, you'll just need My Optus app to begin.

  1. Open My Optus app
  2. Tap Recharge from the bottom menu

  3. Tap the Add-ons tab
  4. Select your roaming option and follow the prompts to recharge

You can also activate international roaming in My Account.

  1. Log in to My Account
  2. If you only have one service, select View Details
  3. Select Settings
  4. Select Roaming and International travel
  5. Select Roaming activated or Deactivate roaming
  6. Agree to the Terms and Conditions
  7. Select Save

    Note: You will need to connect to WiFi to access My Account if you're overseas and you haven't activated international roaming.

    If you'd prefer to call, you can activate or deactivate international roaming yourself by following the steps below:

    1. Call +612 8082 5678 (Free call from any Optus mobile that has roaming activated)
    2. Follow the prompts
