Optus $10 Roaming Pass

In this article, we'll explain how Optus $10 Roaming Pass works and how to add it to your Optus service.

Note:

  • If you're on an Optus Choice Plus, Optus Plus Family, Optus Plus Promo, Optus Plus Data, Business Choice Plus, Business Choice Data Plus, Business Teams Plus, Business Fund, Business SIM (excl $39 Business SIM) or Qantas plan, you won't use Optus $10 Roaming Pass. Instead, you'll have Optus Daily Roaming turned on. Find out more here 
  • If you're on an Business Choice, Business Choice Data or Business Teams plan, you won't use Optus $10 Roaming Pass. Instead, you'll have Optus Business $5 Roaming Pass turned on. Find out more here

Optus Choice Direct Debit plan:

  • If you're on an Optus Choice Direct Debit plan, you'll be automatically opted into Optus $10 Roaming Pass. All other plans will need to opt in before roaming. You can opt into Optus $10 Roaming Pass before travelling overseas
  • If you're in an eligible destination, you'll be able to use your Roaming Pass inclusions
  • To check what plan you're on, visit My Optus app or My Account. Otherwise, head to our article for more info
  • If you're in a destination that's ineligible for Roaming Pass, you can use roaming with our standard roaming rates

Note for travel to Myanmar: There may be interruptions impacting the use of data while roaming in Myanmar. Talk & text aren't affected and will continue to work as usual. 

  • Optus $10 Roaming Pass provides you with unlimited standard talk (mobile plans only) & SMS (excl. MMS) and 1GB of data for 24 hours to use while travelling overseas
  • It's $10 for 24 hours or until 1GB of data is used (whichever comes first). If active, a pass will automatically start when you use your service overseas in a Zone 1 destination (subject to change). Standard roaming rates apply in all other destinations
  • If you exceed 1GB of data or 24 hours passes and you continue to roam in an eligible destination, another $10 pass will automatically apply and the 24-hour timer restarts. Any unused data will expire
  • For mobile broadband, Optus Roaming Pass is data and SMS only

Note: Our $10 Optus Roaming Pass charge only applies when you use data (including sending & receiving MMS), make or receive a call or send a text. You don't get charged for days you don't use your phone.

Optus $10 Roaming Pass is available to eligible Postpaid Mobile and Mobile Broadband customers. Check eligibility by logging into My Optus app, My Account or calling us on +612 8082 5678 (free call from an Optus Mobile).

To check your eligibility via My Optus app:

  1. Open My Optus app
  2. Select Settings from the bottom menu
  3. Select the Add-ons tab
  4. Select International Roaming

If you have one of these plans, you can't get the Optus $10 Roaming Pass. Instead, you should use Optus Daily Roaming:

  • Optus Choice Plus
  • Optus Choice Plus Data
  • Optus Plus Family
  • Optus Plus Kids
  • Optus Plus Promo
  • Business Choice Plus
  • Business Choice Data Plus
  • Business Teams Plus
  • Business Fund (Aug 23)
  • Business SIM (Aug 23) (excl $39 Business SIM)
  • Qantas plan


For Business Choice, Business Choice Data, or Business Teams plans:

  • You're also not eligible for the $10 Roaming Pass
  • Instead, you can use the Optus Business $5 Roaming Pass


Where is Optus Roaming Pass available?

Optus Roaming Pass is available in Zone 1 destinations (subject to change).


Standard roaming rates apply for all other destinations.

What if I have roaming inclusions as part of my plan?

If you have roaming inclusions in your plan that can be used in an eligible Optus Roaming Pass destination, Optus Roaming Pass charges will only apply once you have used your plan inclusions. If you have turned on Optus Roaming Pass, a pass will automatically start once you have exceeded your plan's roaming data inclusion and continue roaming in an eligible destination. Otherwise, standard roaming rates will apply.

For mobile:

  • Using data
  • Making or receiving a standard call
  • Sending a standard SMS
  • Sending and receiving an MMS (may incur additional charges)
  • Premium SMS and calls (may also incur further charges)
  • Voicemail retrievals and voicemail diversions set to busy, no reply or unreachable


For mobile broadband:

  • Using data
  • Sending an SMS
  • Sending and receiving an MMS (may incur additional charges)
  • Premium SMS (May also incur further charges)


Note:
MMS charges are excluded and charged as per your plan.


What usage does not start Optus Roaming Pass?

Usage types that aren't charged and won't start a pass include but are not limited to the following:

  • Calls to Optus Customer Care on +612 8082 5678, +612 8082 2642, +61937
  • Calls to emergency services
  • Receiving SMS
  • Zero-rates/filtered SMS

You can activate Optus Roaming Pass on your account in the My Optus app.


My Optus app

  1. Open the My Optus app
  2. Tap More settings
  3. Tap International Roaming
  4. Tap Optus Roaming Pass
  5. Review and confirm Terms and Conditions
  6. You'll receive a confirmation that we've received your request
  7. Once ready, a tick will appear next to Optus Roaming Pass and you'll receive a usage alert notification that Optus Roaming Pass is active.

Note: Activating Optus Roaming Pass in My Optus App will turn on International Roaming.

Monitor your Optus Roaming Pass usage in the My Optus app.

My Optus app

  1. Open the My Optus app
  2. Tap More settings
  3. Tap International Roaming
  4. View your Optus Roaming Pass usage here

Usage Alerts

 

We will also send you usage alert notifications by SMS or email at 50%, 85% and 100% of your 1GB data usage.

Note: All usage screens and usage alerts may be delayed by up to 48 hours. Please refer to your next bill for complete usage information.

You can deactivate Optus Roaming Pass in the My Optus app.

My Optus app

Selecting standard roaming rates:

  1. Open the My Optus app
  2. Tap More settings
  3. Tap International Roaming
  4. Tap Standard roaming rates
  5. Review and confirm request to turn off Optus Roaming Pass and tap Accept
  6. Once deactivated, you'll see a tick or radio button near standard roaming rates

Note: Significantly higher charges will apply. Check standard roaming rates here.

Aeromobile allows you to use mobile roaming with Optus whilst in-flight on applicable Partner Airlines only. Partner Airlines are subject to change without notice. You can check the latest Partner Airlines here. Roaming charges will apply only if airplane mode is switched off in your device settings.

If you use your Optus Roaming Pass in-flight on an Aeromobile Partner Airline and then land in a Zone 1 destination within 24 hours, you can continue to use any un-used portion of the Optus Roaming pass inclusions at your destination.
