Manage Voicemail for your mobile

In this article, we explain how to set up Voicemail for your mobile phone.

If you want to set up Voicemail for your Home Phone, click Home Phone Voicemail setup & options.

You'll need to add Voicemail first, following one of the below instructions.

Once this is done you'll need to set up your mailbox. See the manage mailbox section.

The below steps apply to all mobile services for managing Voicemail in My Optus app.

  1. Open My Optus app
  2. Tap the Services tab
  3. Tap your mobile service
  4. Tap Settings
  5. Tap Voicemail and call diversions
  6. Select when you want to divert your calls to Voicemail
  7. Select Voicemail to have calls divert to Voicemail or select Off if you don't want to use Voicemail
  8. If you've selected Voicemail, see manage mailbox section of this article for next steps

    Note: 

    • Changes take 15 minutes to 4 hours to take effect
    • Removing Voicemail: The free Missed Call Service will automatically activate once you've removed Voicemail. You can turn this off by texting OFF to 159
    1. Dial 1509 from your mobile (free call)
    2. Select the Voicemail option
    3. Choose the Activate or Deactivate option
    4. If you've activated Voicemail, see the manage mailbox section of this article for next steps

    Note:

    • Changes take 15 minutes to 4 hours to take effect
    • Deactivating Voicemail: The free Missed Call Service will automatically activate once you've removed Voicemail. You can turn this off by texting OFF to 159

    Once your Voicemail is active, you'll be sent a text that includes a random default PIN.

    To set up your mailbox:

    1. Dial 321 from your mobile
    2. Record your greeting
    3. Change your PIN
    4. Complete the tutorial

    Make sure you change the PIN we send you. Your PIN can be up to 9 digits long, as long as the numbers are non-sequential (e.g. 1234), and are not a series of repeated numbers (e.g. 1111).

    If you need to reset your PIN, contact us.

    To access your Voicemail messages, or modify your personal preferences:

    1. Dial 321 from your mobile
    2. Follow the prompts
      • Press 8 to access user options
      • Press 3 to change your greeting. We have more info about Voicemail greeting options here

    You can choose how you receive the notification to let you know when a new Voicemail message has been left. The default setting is SMS.

    To change between SMS or an automated call notification:

    • Dial 321 from your mobile
    • Press 8 to access user options
    • Press 3 to change your notification type

    Standard SMS and call notifications are part of our regular Voicemail service at no additional charge.
